French Canadian actress and cabaret singer NATHALIE
NADON will be making her Stratford Festival
Debut in the production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well
and Living in Paris, starting May 14th 2010.
« This role is the perfect balance between my acting and
singing career. It’s a communion between my two passions
and it will happen every night under Brel’s blessing».
It’s theatrically speaking that Nadon speaks of a sacred
ritual. «Each performance will be delivered as if the
actors just woke up from a century of deep sleep, like when
the moon and the sun cross path, rarely and for a short time,
creating a suspension in time, long enough to recreate Brel’s
music and poetry… one last time.»
Stafford Arima,
the director, chose Nathalie to embody Brel’s work not
only for her talent but also for her energy and her presence.
Nathalie will share the stage with Veteran
actor Brent Carver,
winner of a TONY Award for his performance in Kiss of a
Spider Woman on Broadway. « Sharing the stage with
a legend like Brent is very inspiring. He is a man of such intelligence
and sensibility of the soul, I feel quite privileged to spend
hours in rehearsal and on stage with him. » Mike
Nadajewski and Jewelle
Blackman are also quite excited to be back at
the Festival for a second season and to be part of the Brel
experience!
Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
is a musical in English. American writers Eric Blau and Mort
Schuman captured the essence of Brel’s poetry in their
translation. It goes without saying that Nadon didn’t
have to insist too much to get to sing a few songs in French
in the show. « It was essential for us that Nathalie sings
a song in la langue de Brel. The fact that this song
happens to be one of the most beautiful songs of the entire
French repertoire made it an obvious choice for this brilliant
interpreter. »
« I couldn’t have wished for a
better role to make my debut in this great Canadian institution.
» Starting May 14th, Nathalie and her colleagues will
be at The Tom Patterson previewing Jacques Brel is Alive
and Well and Living in Paris. For more details, please
visit the Festival’s website.
Jacques Brel is Alive and
Well and Living in Paris, from June 11th
to September 30th at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Nathalie
is also appearing in As You
Like It
, from April 30th to October 31st at the Festival Theatre.

Les Chiclettes (also
known as Nathalie Nadon, Geneviève Cholette
et Julie Kim) presented an entertaining 20
minute showcase at The Shenkman Arts Centre Friday night to
a house packed with producers, artistic directors, and presenters
from Ontario, Acadia and Quebec.
The crowd cheered the three girls as they began their first
number: a French version of In the Mood (En amour)
supported by musical director and pianist extraordinaire Michael
Barber and talented bass player Michael Herring.
The show was directed by Dino Gonçalves.
Les Chiclettes are reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters
with a French twist. They feature strong vocal harmonies,
creative song choices, swing era dance steps and even a 1940's
style radio commercial! Nathalie, Geneviève and Julie
Kim had the crowd cheering, laughing and crying, all within
their 20 minute time allotment!
The audience rewarded the trio and their musicians with an extended
standing ovation.
Les Chiclettes begin touring this coming November.
PRIX COUP DE FOUDRE
(Best Showcase) guarantees Les Chiclettes an Ontario
Tour.
PRIX ROSEQ guarantees a showcase at the eastern
Quebec Contact and a $1000 travel grant.

NATHALIE NADON
is that rare breed of chanteuse who recalls the past but, at the same
time, exudes a contemporary sense of cool. She can break your heart
with her rendition of Je ne t’aime pas, but she can
also make you laugh with tunes like Incroyablement and I
Wish I’d Grown Up In The Twenties. Like singers of the
past, Nadon includes the original – often wonderful, but forgotten
- introductions of songs like Embraceable You. And, on a
classic like Autumn Leaves, she begins in French but switches
to English on the chorus. If Nadon sounds like she is pouring her
heart into every song she sings, it might have something to do with
her parallel involvement in theatre. In addition to her expanding
career as a cabaret singer, she has starred in major productions of
The Vagina Monologues and other commercially successful projects.
